PIAA waiting on further decisions from state to decide winter championships, spring sports

“Health is the first thing,” Westry said. “Yes, it’s hard not to be out there. I was looking forward to playing this weekend. It was a big weekend, but it’s God’s plans. We just have to wait and see what happens.”

As of Sunday, there are currently no meetings scheduled to discuss the fate of the winter championships or spring sports season, PIAA executive director Bob Lombardi told PennLive in a text, and that the PIAA is currently waiting on “further guidance and decisions” from the governor’s office. Gov. Tom Wolf announced that all Pennsylvania schools would be closed for 10 business days the day after the PIAA suspended its championships.

All schools and activities are closed until March 30, which pushes back the suspension of winter championships and spring sports. Uncertainty remains, however, about whether that closure could be extended as other states in the country, including Ohio, Pennsylvania News are prolonging the shutdown of high schools within their respective state to prevent the spread of the virus.

For schools waiting on the basketball championships to resume and spring sports to start, however, it meant that teams could not practice or have off-campus workouts while waiting, a decision the PIAA reaffirmed to its schools later the following Monday.

District 3 still has several boys teams remaining in the basketball championships, with Trinity still playing in the Class 3A championships; Lancaster Catholic and Bishop McDevitt still playing for the Class 4A title; Muhlenberg, New Oxford and Milton Press Release Distribution Services In Pennsylvania Hershey waiting for the Class 5A championships; and Reading and Wilson remaining in the Class 6A bracket.

On the girls side, Linden Hall is waiting for the Class 2A tournament to resume; Delone Catholic is left in the Class 3A bracket; Northern Lebanon and Lancaster Catholic will play each other should their Class 4A game come back; Mechanicsburg and Gettysburg have games remaining in the Class 5A bracket; and Central York is the lone District 3 girls team left in the Class 6A championships.
